General Information

The Municipality of Western Lesvos is a municipality of the Regional Unit of Lesvos that includes the former municipalities of Kalloni, Mantamados, Agia Paraskevi, Eresos-Antissa, Polichnitos, Petra and Mithymna (Kapodistrias reform). The new municipality was established according to a decision of the Ministry of Interior on the 25th of February 2019 and resulted from the division of the pre-existing municipality of Lesbos.

The Municipality includes 36 settlements, in a total area of 1,065 square kilometres.

The Municipality of Western Lesvos is 90% economically based in the agricultural and tourism industries with the main sectors of production being oil production, livestock, fisheries, tourism, geothermal energy and renewable energy sources in general.

Petra, Molyvos and Eresos are among the most emblematic towns of the Municipality that receive the largest numbers of tourists during the summer months.

The first elected Mayor of the new Municipality was the civil engineer Taxiarchis Verros.
